Krew's Next Chapter

Whitney Copeland (9:40pm PST, Monday, 2/7/22)

1 ambulance ride. 1 life flight. 39 days in the PICU. 10 surgeries. That’s what Krew has experienced thus far. After a big bowel movement and a hearty breakfast, they decided to send him off. The hardest part was having Pepper say goodbye knowing she won’t see him for a few months. COVID limits the visitors to just parents and grandmas.

Krew is quickly becoming acquainted with the house and getting a little too comfortable with being an only child. Krew has a lot of trauma to work around. Currently the grafts on his arms are hard for him to look at. A lot of the area is scabbed over and needing multiple applications of lotion daily. It is a screaming wrestling match for about 5-7 minutes. Touch is difficult anywhere on his body. One day those touches won’t scare him but for now the trauma of the last bit of his life is in the forefront of his mind.

We decided to rent a home here in Vegas. Pepper will still be in the hospital for few months to come and we will have outpatient care for all three members for some time. The house is BIG and empty. I miss loud mornings, large grocery trips and homeschooling. We are really looking forward to rejoining as a family soon!

Good job, Krew Krew we are so proud of you!

  2. We seriously have a lifetime supply of Bacitracin in our bathroom from when Scarlet had her burn accident. I'm not sure if that's the lotion you're referencing, but Scarlet now identifies healing with Bacitracin! Typically, kids her age ask for bandaids, she asks for Bacitracin. LOL. You got this, Krew & family!
