The Copeland Family Updates (Janie Hawley)

1/1/2022 4:37pm

Update on needs: There are some items added to the Amazon list. There are a few clothing items on there for Pepper, but we are thinking it might be best to wait a few weeks until she is awake and can help us pick out clothing she likes. She is turning 12 next month and is beginning to really have opinions on what she likes to wear.

Whitney said if you're looking for ways to continue helping, self-care items would be greatly appreciated (massage gift cards, movie theater gift cards, restaurants etc.). She hopes to have her other kids visit her in the upcoming weeks and would love to do "a self-care day" of fun things with them.

Update on the Copelands:

Pepper did great in her surgery yesterday! They removed all of her burnt skin which took a little over 6 hours. We are so grateful for the doctors who stood over her body for 6 hours tediously taking care of her. We have heard the doctors say with each of the Copelands, "It somehow just wasn't as bad as we thought". Without a doubt, WE KNOW this is from the prayers and fasting that have been offered. Things should be much worst, these doctors are burn specialists and look at burns all day long, they recognize burns and what degree they are. But every surgery they come out of they say, "I was expecting 4th degree burns, but it was only 3rd" or "I was sure that was much much deeper than it was, but it was only 2nd". We are so grateful for your prayers and fasting. Please keep them coming!

Pepper has been uncomfortable the past couple days. They are having a hard time keeping her sedated. Her body is working so hard, they are feeding her 3000 calories a day and she is being given the maximum amount of sedation medication allowed but she is still waking up every hour. She is not in pain, but very frustrated and claustrophobic with the tubing down her throat breathing for her and not being able to take her own breaths, IV's, her whole body being wrapped in gauze and her arms being tied down. We wish that she could stay asleep but her sweet body just keeps waking up. She received another priesthood blessing today.

Krew got his dressings changed yesterday and everything looked good they said! No infection.

Kyle had his first surgery on his face and hands today. They said it is mostly 2nd and some third degree burning on both his face and hands. He is very stable and has the possibility of coming off of the ventilator maybe today or tomorrow and being able to talk to Whitney!

Please continue to pray and donate as much as you can. We are so grateful to see what the faith and prayers of so many have already accomplished and we know we will see more miracles as prayer and donations continue.
